As a wedding photographer, we have years of experience shooting various locations and venues in the New York Metro Area (literally – we’ve photographed over 300 weddings!). When navigating the wedding planning process, it can be so difficult to figure out venues, vendors, logistics, and budgets. That being said, we thought it would be helpful to give some information based on our experience photographing weddings at The Foundry. See all the details below!
The Foundry is located in the heart of Long Island City at 42-38 Ninth Street, with gorgeous views overlooking New York City. Originally a 19th century metal factory, this raw space features stunning architecture with soaring ceilings and original features. The multitude of spaces from the outdoor courtyard, garden rooftop, and interior mezzanine gives you flexibility to design your wedding as you wish. It is an incredible backdrop to host all your guests, whether locals or out-of-towners.
If you're looking for an alternative New York City venue that gives you the flexibility to design the wedding of your dreams, look no further than The Foundry. The raw space allows you to choose your own caterer, florist, rentals, and more to create a truly unique event. But not to worry, their industrial kitchen has plenty of prep space - and is even included in the rental price.
The Foundry holds up to 180 guests for a seated ceremony, and up to 165 guests for a seated outside dinner. You can seamlessly transition from an outside ceremony to cocktails to dinner, transitioning from industrial to elegant depending on the space of you choice.
The experienced team at The Foundry is truly one-of-a-kind. They will connect you with the best vendors and make recommendations for what they've seen work well at past events. Several people from their staff will be on-site the day of your wedding to ensure everything runs smoothly without worry, and answer any of your guests' questions.
The Foundry is one of those rare venues where every corner feels intentional — it’s full of texture, mood, and built-in atmosphere. With exposed brick, an ivy-covered courtyard, and steel-framed windows, it’s incredibly photogenic, but working with a photographer who understands how to use the space well will make all the difference.
One of the most important things to consider is light. The main space indoors is naturally darker, especially later in the afternoon, so ask potential photographers how they handle low light settings without relying on flash for every shot. The right photographer will know how to use available light creatively, along with warm candles, uplighting, or string lights, to preserve the venue’s natural ambiance without making your photos feel too dark or blown out.
There are also unexpected pockets throughout the venue — a tucked-away mezzanine, corners of the garden, and even the industrial street just outside with views of the Queensboro Bridge. A photographer who’s shot here before (or who’s great at quick location scouting) will know how to balance the iconic with the personal, giving you variety without pulling you away from the moment.
The Foundry is the kind of space where your wedding feels like it’s unfolding in a world of its own — quietly epic, with a mood that lingers. With the right pacing, light, and a little creativity, it creates photographs that feel timeless and completely unique to you.
