Carly and Jake’s love story traces back to their high school days, evolving from childhood neighbors to high school sweethearts and eventually leading to a surprise proposal at their favorite restaurant in Boston. Surrounded by loved ones it was just the beginning of their journey to the aisle. Leaving Massachusetts, they opted for a destination wedding at the breathtaking Ocean House in Westerly, Rhode Island.

Their day overflowed with special little details, from intimate morning vows over coffee to an unforgettable hydrangea bar and a dinner-party style reception. Each detail celebrated the charm and uniqueness of Carly and Jake as a couple. With heartfelt touches, unexpected glam, and the beautiful natural setting, their day was a modern fairytale.

The Couple’s Vision

New England Coastal Chic

The wedding vision was to blend classic and modern elements with a subtle coastal aesthetic. Imagine shades of grey, pops of black, and cozy candlelight, all brought to life by vibrant blue hydrangeas. They aimed for a fun transition from a sweet ceremony to a lively cocktail hour and dinner-party style reception. The goal was to create a memorable and joyful experience for everyone – the ultimate party where everyone was invited to share the joy!

The Night Before

A Winery Welcome Party

The evening before the wedding, Carly and Jake hosted a vibrant welcome party at Jonathan Edwards Winery. Carly dazzled in a stunning white ruffle dress from “Undone by Kate” in NYC. The celebration featured wine, live music, and dancing, complemented by thoughtful details like personalized French fry boxes, napkins, and guest welcome boxes. And in a unique twist – custom cigar ashtrays with a cigar roller elevated the experience. It was an epic, fashion-forward, and fun prelude to the big day!

Morning Vows

Private readings & walks on the beach

Carly and Jake kicked off the morning of the wedding in the sweetest way. They chose to share their vows privately over coffee on their suite balcony. From the bride, “We found a lot of comfort knowing our vows were just being written for each other to hear which made them very personal.” After the heartfelt exchange, they took a leisurely stoll along the beach, shaking off any wedding day nerves. Starting the morning like this let them share all the excitement of the day ahead together.

Getting Ready Moments

Sentimental Details in the Carousel Suite

Carly’s getting-ready spot at Ocean House, the chic Carousel Suite, is flooded with natural light, offering ocean views and a gorgeous private deck. Adding a sentimental touch, Carly’s mom transformed her ’90s wedding dress into robes for Carly and her sister to wear on the morning of their wedding. It was one of the most heartwarming details of the day!

Now, let’s talk about Carly’s showstopper – her Galia Lahav wedding gown, “The Viv.” Recently featured on the designer’s website, this dress was an absolute knockout. Describing it as elegant, feminine, and flirty, Carly couldn’t find a single thing not to love about it. With satin fabric and a high side slit, she was the picture of a glowing bride.

Post hair and makeup, and with the final touches in place, Carly took a few moments with her mom and sister to soak it all in. A first look with the bridesmaids and her mother-in-law amped up the excitement, adding that extra layer of magic to the morning.

Jake and the groomsmen kicked off their prep in another room at the hotel after a laid-back lunch and drinks. Adding the finishing touches to their looks, Jake rocked a black suit paired with Manolo Blahnik shoes giving off major James Bond vibes in all black.

The Garden Ceremony

Ocean House South Lawn

The ceremony was everything and more – Carly descended the stairs, the ocean as her backdrop and guests gathered on the iconic Ocean House terrace. It was the first time Jake and Carly laid eyes on each other post-getting ready, a moment they chose to save for the aisle. As the instrumental version of Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect” played during the processional, the significance was not lost on anyone. Being high school sweethearts, the lyrics resonated with their journey, adding an emotional touch to an already beautiful moment.

The Wedding Party

All Black Moment

The wedding party embodied Carly and Jake’s sophisticated coastal vibe, with chic black bridesmaid dresses, white bouquets featuring pops of blue, and all-black groomsmen attire. Embracing individuality within the mismatched bridal party, they maintained a cohesive and elegant look.

Cocktail Hour

Hydrangeas, Drinks & Croquet

Cocktail hour mirrored Carly’s hands-on wedding planning, with intentional details bringing her visions to life. The terrace served as the main hub for mingling and enjoying drinks, but the spotlight was on the cocktail bar. Adorned with cascading blue hydrangeas by Hana Florals, it stole the show. Placed strategically next to Ocean House’s croquet course, a croquet professional offered helpful tips to guests, resulting in some pretty epic photos.

Bride & Groom Portraits

Kind Words From the Couple:

“These are so amazing Katherine! Even better than we could have imagined. You seriously went way beyond our expectations and we are already trying to figure out when we can book you again – you and Siobhan were the best!!! We had so many [guests] come up to us and comment on how you guys were there capturing every moment and how great you two were. Thank you!”

The Reception & Party

Seaside Dinner-Party Style

The Dune Cottage dinner was a dreamy manifestation of the intimate dinner party vibe rather than a traditional wedding atmosphere. A mix of round and rectangle tables adorned with textured ivory and grey linens created a sophisticated setting. Dark grey chairs and crystal glassware added that extra touch of elegance. As the sun set over the ocean, guests enjoyed the ambiance set by soft jazz music. Despite weather issues extinguishing their dinner candles, Carly’s message to future brides remained positive: things will go wrong, and it’s okay!

Instead of the usual spiel, let me give you the real scoop on what I do and why it might just be what you're looking for in your wedding photographer.

My approach? It’s all about capturing the raw, unfiltered joy and those blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moments. I believe in photography that tells a story - your story - with all its unique quirks, laughter, and, of course, love.

I’m talking about the tearful smiles, the spontaneous dances, and the silent glances that speak volumes. My style is a blend of candid documentary and artistic flair, ensuring each photo feels as real and vibrant as the moment it captures. I don't just take pictures; you don't just want your picture taken, you want your memories preserved.

Welcome to the party! I’m Katherine Marchand.
