A Modern and Whimsical Wedding at New York Botanical Gardens

Any New Yorker will tell you that there is nothing like early September in the city. A wedding at New York Botanical Gardens during this season is nothing short of spectacular. Kayla and Bryant’s wedding at NYBG was the perfect way to soak in the natural beauty of the gardens and celebrate their love story.

The couple’s approach was a modern take on elegance while keeping the natural beauty of the venue. Danielle Elder of Classic Events NYC made their vision come to life. The goal was to make guests feel at home, but have fun the whole time. Stunning florals by Denise Fasanello mixed with lots of greenery were the perfect touch to complement the design. There even was a floral wall and neon sign backdrop for photos!

But it’s not only beautiful design that makes a beautiful wedding. Kayla and Bryant incorporated many personal touches into the day. There was a song during their ceremony dedicated to Kayla’s mother, who passed away leading up to the wedding. “The Botanical Garden is a place my mom loved to visit as she was an avid gardener and loved flowers,” said Kayla. “She especially loved hydrangeas, which really remind us of her.”

The couple was wed in an outdoor garden, surrounded by hydrangeas.

Located just 20 minutes from Manhattan but feeling like a world away, NYBG is one of New York City’s best wedding venues.

Elegant, timeless, nature-filled – those are the words that I would use to describe NYBG in a nutshell. At this classic New York City venue, there are several locations for private events and weddings. Each one is stunning for outdoor ceremonies and beautiful for indoor receptions.

Private events at NYBG are run by Constellation Culinary Group. Your guests will have some of the best dining and service in all of the city. Their team has a special personalized touch that makes you feel like you’re the only couple getting married there all year, but with a professional standard that conveys years of quality experience.

The Good Stuff and Details about NYBG Weddings

So, let’s get into the good stuff…that is – getting married at New York Botanical Gardens! This iconic New York venue is a vibe that feels like a destination for your guests yet not too far from the city. And their events team is all about lending a helping hand.

New York Botanical Gardens’ team of professionals with Constellation have more than two decades of experience in the event planning and wedding industry. Their people will be on hand to help you with every step of the process, from navigating seating charts to sourcing lighting designers to shepherding you (with a cooler of water bottles!) around the grounds of NYBG in a golf cart for photos.

For us, however, the service and high standard of weddings at NYBG doesn’t even compare when it comes to the sheer beauty of the venue itself. At any time of year, the New York Botanical Gardens is absolutely stunning. There is an iconic building and dome, carefully-landscaped gardens, gorgeous trees that create even more beauty when the sun shines through them, and a few carefully-curated outdoor and indoor spots. All excellent backdrops for your wedding photos.

How to Plan for Your Wedding at New York Botanical Gardens

For the ceremony: Your guests arrive to champagne and a stunning outdoor terrace surrounded by greenery but with enough of a raw space for your floral decor to shine. The ceremony site at NYBG is especially beautiful once the sun goes down.

For the cocktail hour: Contingent on weather, you can host cocktails and delicious food with a range of cuisines available either outdoors on the lawn or indoors in the stunning ballroom space. There’s even an outdoor tent available for extra space.

For the dinner: The Stone Mill is in an old-stone building set on a creek enveloped in the woods, giving off natural elegance for a more intimate feel. The second space, The Garden Terrace Room, is an elegant ballroom with stunning murals on the walls of the garden, perfect to celebrate with up to 300 guests and dance the night away.

And for the dance party: One of the benefits of being at New York Botanical Gardens for your wedding is you can party till midnight, and there’s even an after party option complete with pizza and all your favorite late-night goodies.

All of our clients who’ve been married at this incredible wedding spot have used words to describe it such as: magical, picturesque, peaceful, and elegant to describe it. We wholeheartedly agree. After shooting over 300 weddings, New York Botanical Gardens remains at the very top of my list.

Instead of the usual spiel, let me give you the real scoop on what I do and why it might just be what you're looking for in your wedding photographer.

My approach? It’s all about capturing the raw, unfiltered joy and those blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moments. I believe in photography that tells a story - your story - with all its unique quirks, laughter, and, of course, love.

I’m talking about the tearful smiles, the spontaneous dances, and the silent glances that speak volumes. My style is a blend of candid documentary and artistic flair, ensuring each photo feels as real and vibrant as the moment it captures. I don't just take pictures; you don't just want your picture taken, you want your memories preserved.

Welcome to the party! I’m Katherine Marchand.
