As wedding photographers, we have so much experience shooting at different locations and venues. Literally, we’ve seen it all – over 300 weddings from NYC to California to London to Hong Kong. We thought it would be helpful to share our insight into venues to help potential couples with planning for the wedding. Here’s all the details about weddings at NYBG!
Located just 20 minutes from Manhattan but feeling like a world away, New York Botanical Garden is one of New York City’s best wedding venues.
Elegant, timeless, nature-filled – those are the words that I would use to describe NYBG in a nutshell. At this classic New York City venue, there are several locations for private events and weddings. Each one is stunning for outdoor ceremonies and beautiful for indoor receptions.
This iconic New York venue is a vibe that feels like a destination for your guests yet not too far from the city. Their events team is all about lending a helping hand.
Private events at NYBG are run by Constellation Culinary Group. Your guests will have some of the best dining and service in all of the city. Their team has a special personalized touch that makes you feel like you’re the only couple getting married there all year, but with a professional standard that conveys years of experience.
Constellation has more than two decades of experience in the event planning and wedding industry. Their people will be on hand to help you with every step of the process, from navigating seating charts to sourcing lighting designers to shepherding you (with a cooler of water bottles!) around the grounds of NYBG in a golf cart for photos.
For us, however, the service and high standard of weddings at NYBG doesn’t even compare when it comes to the sheer beauty of the venue itself. At any time of year, the New York Botanical Garden is absolutely stunning. There is an iconic building and dome, carefully-landscaped gardens, gorgeous trees that create even more beauty when the sun shines through them, and a few carefully-curated outdoor and indoor spots. All make excellent backdrops for your wedding photos.
The New York Botanical Garden is one of the most visually stunning wedding venues in NYC - lush, expansive, and full of natural beauty no matter the season. Whether you're getting married beneath the soaring glass dome of the Conservatory or in the gardens at peak bloom, NYBG offers a truly dynamic backdrop for your day. But with such a large and diverse property, photography at this venue is all about timing, lighting, and planning ahead.
Because NYBG is a public space during the day, timing your ceremony and portraits can be key. Late afternoon into early evening is ideal - the light softens, the crowds thin out, and the gardens take on that romantic glow that looks incredible in photos. If your timeline allows, try to carve out time for portraits around golden hour - especially near the Rose Garden or along the tree-lined paths near the Conservatory.
The scale of the gardens can make things a bit logistically tricky, so make sure your photographer is comfortable navigating the property and has a clear plan for where and when to shoot. A venue this vast offers a lot of variety - grand architecture, manicured gardens, and quiet, tucked-away corners - but getting around takes time. You’ll want someone who knows how to move quickly and make the most of the light without making the day feel rushed.
And finally, be sure to ask your photographer how they handle strong sunlight and shifting conditions - especially during midday ceremonies or summer weddings, when reflections from glass and greenery can be intense.
