As a wedding photographer, we have years of experience shooting various locations and venues in the New York Metro Area (literally – we’ve photographed over 300 weddings!). When navigating the wedding planning process, it can be so difficult to figure out venues, vendors, logistics, and budgets. That being said, we thought it would be helpful to give some information based on our experience photographing weddings at Foxfire Mountain House. See all the details below!

Foxfire Mountain House is full of character - weathered wood, layered textiles, antique details, and a layout that feels both intimate and a little eclectic. Set in the Catskills with mountain views, gardens, and a reflecting pond, it’s a photographer’s dream, but it does require someone who knows how to work with its unique lighting and layout.
Natural light changes quickly here. The property is surrounded by tall trees, which means ceremony light can shift from bright to shaded in an instant. If you’re planning an outdoor ceremony on the lawn, aim for late afternoon when the sun dips behind the house - it’s the most flattering time for portraits. Earlier in the day, the dappled light can be tricky, so make sure your photographer knows how to handle mixed lighting without making things look too contrasty or blown out.
Inside the inn, most rooms have moody, lower light. That’s part of the charm, but it does mean your photographer should be experienced with indoor shooting and know how to use flash sparingly to maintain the atmosphere. The dining room, in particular, is beautiful but dark - string lights and candles help, but your photographer should be ready for the challenge.
Foxfire isn’t a traditional ballroom-style venue - it has quirks, nooks, and movement throughout the day. The best photographers for this space are those who can anticipate moments, adapt quickly to different lighting conditions, and understand how to work within tighter spaces without disrupting the flow of the event.
