As a wedding photographer, we have years of experience shooting various locations and venues in the New York Metro Area (literally – we’ve photographed over 300 weddings!). When navigating the wedding planning process, it can be so difficult to figure out venues, vendors, logistics, and budgets. That being said, we thought it would be helpful to give some information based on our experience photographing weddings at Blue Hill at Stone Barns. See all the details below!
Blue Hill at Stone Barns is located on a sprawling farm with beautiful grounds at 630 Bedford Road in Tarrytown, New York. Surrounded by rolling green hills, it is listed among the “World’s 50 Best Restaurants.” The restaurant is in a reconverted barn situated on a working farm and educational center. Much of its food and ingredients are sourced from surrounding farmers. This means a top-of-the-line dining experience for you and your guests.
Besides the incredible food, the beauty of the venue is in the service and space. Whether you’re in the courtyard or the hayloft, the incredible team will ensure every detail is accounted for.
You can have up to 175 of your closest friends and family by your side for the wedding. Multiple spaces, including the iconic hayloft, means that you have flexibility depending on weather and an easy flow for guests from event to event. You can even have your dance party semi-outdoors!
What’s also great about Blue Hill at Stone Barns is that it is perfectly located. Only 40 minutes from New York City, it is easily accessible for your guests but feels like a world away. Local hotels are close as well.
Blue Hill at Stone Barns is one of the most visually breathtaking venues in the region — from the stone architecture and lush gardens to the open fields and warm, natural light. To truly capture the magic of your wedding day here, a few thoughtful tips can make a big difference.
First, plan your timeline with lighting in mind. The late afternoon and golden hour offer the most flattering light for portraits, especially around the open grounds and barn area. The light can be very harsh in the mid-afternoon, so be sure to schedule time during cocktail hour to pop out!
Don’t forget the in-between moments: the quiet pause before walking down the aisle, a glance across the dinner table, the way the light hits your veil just right. These are the emotional, storytelling images that make your gallery come to life.
Lastly, trust your photographer. The best images often come when you're present in the moment — not performing for the camera. Relax, laugh, cry, dance... and let your photographer do what they do best: capture the real, beautiful story as it unfolds.
