She wore Prada, he wore Vans: A Brooklyn Wedding at 501 Union

From the moment I met Tara and James, I knew their wedding at 501 Union in Brooklyn was going to be an epic party. With the help of their incredible planner Ashley Chamblin, the couple was all about making the blank space of 501 Union feel as *them* as possible. “Think non-traditional traditional,” said Tara, “but with jello shots and abundant food.”

Tara’s stunning non-traditional Carol Hannah bridal gown was a surprise for James (at his insistence). The couple collaborated on their entire wedding that was them but showed their personalities. Tara wore Prada, while James and his groomsmen all had matching Vans. They had a dessert table packed with goodies from iconic New York locations like Milk Bar, Junior’s, Fat Witch Bakery, Doughnut Plant, and more.

“TBH I really never considered any other wedding venue besides 501 Union,” said Tara. “It felt so original. So many NYC venues are like ballrooms or open lofts. There is nothing like 501 Union for a wedding and I loved that uniqueness. The art deco vibe is to die for (duh).”

A Review from the Couple about Working with Us

“Katherine Marchand was without doubt the best investment we made for our wedding. While our day was special, the more and more we get away from the day, the more we rely on our photos to remind us how the day felt. And oh boy, did Katherine excel at helping us relive our day.

One of my favorite things about her work is that our photos include the typical family portraits, perfectly executed documentary shots to catch all those candids, and artistic shots where she flexed her creative muscle. Taken together, each of our photos is a gem in its own right and going through our library of photos felt like digging into an onion – so many layers and new gems to find.

At the end of the day, you pick a photographer for their style and Katherine hit it out of the park in that department. She brought so much more to our planning and wedding than just that – whether the thoughtful gifts her team sent, vendor recommendations whenever I needed them, or a stylistic eye when I was making a decor decision, Katherine felt like she was always there.

I know how busy she is but I always felt like I was her #1 priority (even a year out from my wedding when most vendors ignore you). On my wedding day, I felt like I had a friend with me not a stranger. Katherine is a star and I’d enthusiastically recommend her.”

Instead of the usual spiel, let me give you the real scoop on what I do and why it might just be what you're looking for in your wedding photographer.

My approach? It’s all about capturing the raw, unfiltered joy and those blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moments. I believe in photography that tells a story - your story - with all its unique quirks, laughter, and, of course, love.

I’m talking about the tearful smiles, the spontaneous dances, and the silent glances that speak volumes. My style is a blend of candid documentary and artistic flair, ensuring each photo feels as real and vibrant as the moment it captures. I don't just take pictures; I preserve memories.

Welcome to the party! I’m Katherine Marchand.
