An Intimate Wedding at Clover Club with Cocktails and a Moody Feel
From our very first phone call, Anna + Kevin described the inspiration for their NYC cocktail club wedding as “secretly a little haunted.” Getting married on Sunday, October 13th in Fort Greene Park followed by a reception at Brooklyn’s famous Clover Club on Smith Street, the choice for the date felt a little spooky without the over-the-top kitsch of Halloween itself.
No skeletons or rubber bats were part of the decor, but Anna worked with the incredible Emily Adams of Starling on Bond to create more of a moodier, darker color scheme for the wedding reception at iconic cocktail bar Clover Club. Think lots of dark flowers and fruits – Renaissance Style. The reception was decorated with old portraits of their ancestors and lots of candles.
The couple chose Fort Greene Park as the setting for their ceremony, because it was in their neighborhood – the first place that felt like home after doing long-distance for much of their eight years together. They especially loved the idea of celebrating their wedding out in public, in an egalitarian space where fellow New Yorkers could look in if they like.
The way that Anna and Kevin put this NYC cocktail bar wedding at Clover Club together was to be a reflection of them, while still maintaining the traditions of a wedding (which felt especially more real being surrounded by family wedding photos going back generations) was so inspiring to see and an absolute honor to capture as a photographer. We had a blast roaming around their neighborhood before and after the ceremony, and even doing a few spooky double exposures to get that ghostly feel.
